Pro-Tips for Race Day

1. The Soft Touch

Rope Runners roll best with a soft touch! Hold them by the axle, as illustrated, and gently let go. Patience is key for a smooth journey!

2. The Staging Area

Attach numbered clothes-pins along the ropes to hold runners in place until race time. Great for “Creativity” judging!

3. Troubleshooting Balance

Tipping due to too much decor? No stress! Just clip a clothes-pin at the right height on the dowel to even things out.

The Park Pavilion

The rope was looped around a post and each of the 2 ends were staked down at the bottom of the hill. Older Scouts helped to launch the Runners while younger Scouts caught their creations at the end of the line.

The Over Achiever

This group built a free-standing track that they set up during a Roller Derby halftime show.

The Gym Bleachers

This facility had strict rules that the Scouts could not tether their rope track to anything. They used a clothes rack at the top of the bleachers and some homemade stands at the bottom. Volunteers launched the Runners while the Scouts caught their creations at the finish line.

The Summer Day Compromise

One wanted to go to the park, and the other one wanted to test their Runner before the Derby. 1 Jeep, 1 rope, and 2 tent stakes that were used at the bottom of the hill.

The Troop Meeting

This troop kept it simple and basic. They tied the ends of their track to chairs where volunteer dads sat to keep the ropes taught.

The Balcony

Our Favorite track so far. Ropes were tethered to the balcony railing and attached to homemade stands at the bottom with room for a parking lot underneath. Adult volunteers launched the Runners and Scouts caught them at the finish line.
